The Therapeutic Riding Association of Virginia, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization formed in 1986 to foster the concepts of therapeutic horsemanship for people with disabilities. Presently, there are approximately 20 member centers, all of which are also member operating centers of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA), certifying their instructors through NARHA and complying with accreditation standards and procedures. TRAV individual members include program administrators, instructors, therapists, volunteers, parents, riders and other therapeutic riding enthusiasts.

TRAV supports and promotes Therapeutic Horsemanship in Virginia through

1) Quarterly newsletter, The TRAVeler
2) Barbara Baird Instructor Scholarship Fund
3) TRAV Rider Achievement Certificate Program
4) Moizelle Johns Competition Scholarship Fund
5) Professional development and networking opportunities at Annual TRAV/NARHA Region III Conference
6) Two-day Annual TRAV Horse Show at the Virginia Horse Center
7) Educational presentations and demonstrations
8) Permanent educational display in the Coliseum at the Virginia Horse Center
9) Support of center expansion into under-served areas of the state
10) Partnership with Special Olympics of Virginia to provide increased riding opportunities for Special Olympic athletes

TRAV member centers make a difference for children and adults throughout the Commonwealth. But many more are on waiting lists or are waiting for a center to open in their area.

Here's how you can help:

• Become a therapeutic riding instructor - many more are needed!
  
  
• Volunteer at a center near you. You don't have to be "horsey" to help.

• Check the center's Wish List for an item or service you can donate.

• Donate a sound, gentle horse or pony.

• Support the center's on-going fundraising efforts.

• Advocate for therapeutic riding in your local community.

TRAV Honorary Chairman, former press secretary to President Ronald Reagan. Mr. Brady was injured in an assassination attempt on President Reagan in 1981, has participated in riding as therapy and recreation with his family and has been an active supporter of TRAV.
